We celebrate the Fourth of July with this WWII bombshell and her biographer Rich Shmelter.

Carole Landis rose to become a popular actress and pin-up during WWII. She made several films opposite Victor Mature including One Million B.C., I Wake Up Screaming and My Gal Sal. During WWII she went on a USO tour and was very dedicated to entertaining the troops. The 1944 film Four Jills in a Jeep was based on the actual experiences of actresses Kay Francis, Carole Landis, Martha Raye and Mitzi Mayfair.
The Recipe
These recipes are from The Stork Club Bar Book by Lucius Beebe, in 1946.
CAROLE’S VODKA MARTINI:
3 oz. vodka
1 oz. dry vermouth
Stir or spoon with an ice cube and serve in a 4 oz. glass
CAROLE’S BLODY MARY:
3 oz. vodka
6 oz. tomato juice
2 dashes of Angostura bitters
Juice from half a lemon
Then shake these all together with ice or mix it all in a Waring mixer, then serve cold in a
highball glass.
CAROLE’S DEVILED EGGS:
Ingredients
Eggs
Dry mustard
Pimentos
Worcester sauce
Soft butter
Mayonnaise,
Salt and pepper
Optional: anchovy filet, capers, or a ball of two of cavier
Directions
Boil eggs for 20 minutes. Remove from fire and let cold water run over them until the eggs are cold to the touch. Remove outer shell and cut them in half the long way. Put the yokes in a bowl, and wash the whites in cold water and place on a dry napkin. Add dry mustard to the yokes, chopped pimentos, Worcester sauce, soft butter, mayonnaise, salt and pepper to taste them. Then place in a strainer and make a paste that is not too soft. Place the paste in a regular chef’s pastry bag and fill the white of the eggs. Decorate the tops with split anchovy filet, capers, or a ball of two of cavier and narrow green sticks made of green
pepper.

Since my cat Close-Up licked and destroyed most of the deviled eggs, please enjoy this stock photo of what they should have looked like.

There are plenty of Carole Landis films that you can find on Turner Classic Movies or DVD.
