We are going celebrating Marilyn's centennial year with expert Greg Schreiner!

The year of 2026 will mark the 100th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's birth. She really is the ultimate movie star. There are tons of people who purchase items emblazoned with her image and even have it tattooed on their bodies, but have never seen her films. Hopefully that will soon change. Her centennial day is June 1st and it will usher in what is being hailed as "The Summer of Marilyn". There will be screenings, events, exhibits and celebrations happening across the world!

Greg Schreiner is an incredibly talented musician, historian and expert on Monroe. He. has an extensive collection of authentic memorabilia that will soon be on display in Los Angeles, Paris and London. I am very honored to have him on Hollywood Kitchen.

Here are some of the many Marilyn events that are coming up:

Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon will run at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles from May 31, 2026–February 28, 2027.

Marilyn: The Immersive Experience will happen in select cities and debut in Los Angeles in April 2026 for a limited 16 week engagement.

Marilyn Monroe: A Portrait at the National Portrait Gallery in London June 4th - September 6th, 2026.

Marilyn Monroe, 100 Years! The Centennial Exhibition at the Cinémathèque Française in Paris April 8th - July 26th, 2026.

Recipe

Greg told me that during the making of the 1960 film Let's Make Love, Marilyn made spaghetti sauce for her co-star Yves Montand and his wife Simone Signoret.

We made a small amount only for two people and you can always just eyeball the ingredients in this case and adjust according to your taste.

Ingredients

Pasta

Olive oil

1 Onion

3 to 4 garlic cloves

Canned tomatoes

1 tbsp dried oregano

Fresh basil

Fresh parsley

Grated mozzarella cheese

Directions

Boil pasta on stove. On a separate burner add olive oil to a large pan and sauté the garlic and onion in the oil. Watch closely to make sure it doesn't burn. Add one or two cans of crushed tomatoes. Add in all of the seasoning and let it simmer for 15 minutes. Taste to see if you want to add additional herbs. Make sure pasta is cooked and drain off water. Top with sauce and grated mozzarella cheese.

Special Guest

Greg Schreiner is one of the most well-known collectors of movie costumes. He has appeared on numerous television shows and is Curator of Special Collections at the Hollywood Museum in Hollywood, CA. His wonderful film costume collection houses over 300 masterpieces. Greg shares his collection in the show Hollywood Revisited.

Hollywood Revisited is much more than a visual treat. Acclaimed vocalists sing and dance to movie-related music while wearing the costumes. Schreiner, a concert pianist, provides all the musical accompaniment and anecdotes about the designer, the movie and scene for each costume. The show has won critical praise from movie buffs, film historians and city-wide newspapers.

Final Result

This was simple and delicious! You can also customize it and add a variety of meats or vegetables if you like. I didn't think I was that hungry when the episode started, but I wound up devouring a TON of the spaghetti!

There are plenty of films starring Marilyn Monroe on DVD, Blu-ray and Turner Classic Movies.

Here's a close up shot of Marilyn's costume from The Prince and the Showgirl (1957), which is part of Greg's collection.
