We cooled down with some frosty treats courtesy of Dorothy Lamour.

Dorothy Lamour began her career as a big band singer before signing with Paramount Pictures. In 1936 she starred in the film The Jungle Princess and wore a sarong designed by Edith Head. It would become iconic and she was cast in several more roles as the South Sea exotic beauty. She is best known for her role in the "Road" movies opposite Bob Hope and Bing Crosby including Road to Morocco, Road to Zanzibar and Road to Singapore. After leaving Paramount, Lamour worked in television and had guest star roles on several major shows including Murder, She Wrote.

Recipe

The recipe originally comes from the book "Famous Stars Favorite Foods" by Fannie Sniff and published in 1938.

I decided to half the recipe and it was just enough.

Ingredients

1/2 quart or 2 cups fresh strawberries

1/2 quart or 2 cups heavy cream

1 cup sugar

Directions

I decided to incorporate modern technology here and not run things through a coarse towel. I pureed the strawberries and combined them with the sugar and cream. I poured it into my handy Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker and it was frozen and ready to eat in 20 minutes.

The Final Result

Dorothy Lamour knocked it out of the park. This is creamy, delicious and not too sweet. It's perfect! Bob Hope would do back flips for this!

There are plenty of Dorothy Lamour movies on DVD and sometimes they turn up on Turner Classic Movies as well.
