It is time to celebrate the Swedish Sphinx and her 120th birthday.

Greta Garbo was born in Stockholm Sweden on September 18,. 1905. She was brought to Hollywood by her mentor Mauritz Stiller and made her American debut in the M-G-M film The Temptress. The 1926 film Flesh and the Devil paired her for the first time with John Gilbert. They fell madly in love both on screen and off. They made four more films together including Love (1927), A Woman of Affairs (1928) and Queen Christina (1933). Garbo continued to enchant audiences and was heralded as one of the most beautiful women in the world. She hated publicity, but her longing for privacy only increased the interest from her fans. After the 1941 flop Two-Faced Woman she retired and never made another film. In spite of her early exit from the screen, she remains one of the most fascinating and enigmatic stars in film history.
